Camryn Wingate
General Studies
After suffering a few injuries early in her softball career, Camryn Wingate found a path to a future career.
Her knee and ankle injuries both required some amount of physical therapy. Throughout those sessions, Wingate realized how it was a job she would like to do one day.
“I like to push myself to get better at doing what I want to do and to get back to what I love,温盖特说. “I was able to go in there and put my mind to get better and get back to playing the sport I love.
“I want to give back the same opportunities to kids or people who are injured so they can get back to doing what they love as soon as possible.”
Wingate chose Delaware Tech for a variety of reasons. She knew she didn’t want to leave her family and go somewhere outside of Delaware, the SEED Scholarship made it extremely affordable, and she could play collegiate softball.
“It was important to me to attend college because I will have a good education and the career I have dreamed of,温盖特说.
During her first year at Delaware Tech, Wingate had to get used to balancing homework with being a student-athlete.
“I was harder on myself to make sure I studied every night for the tough classes,温盖特说. “With softball it wasn’t easy, but I had to grow up and do it.”
Wingate has played softball since she was 7 years old and made an immediate impact for Delaware Tech as a freshman. She played in 34 of the team’s 42 games, recorded her first collegiate home run, and earned second team all-region honors.
“I love everything about softball,温盖特说. “The tension on the field, 人群中, the teammates that support you, the love on and off the field, everything about it.
“I don’t know what I’d do without it.”
Wingate is currently a general studies student, but she hopes to be accepted into the physical therapist assistant (PTA) program so she can pursue her dream of being a PTA in Delaware.
