Nursing

Hannah Moore is attending Delaware Tech to continue the tradition of healthcare workers in her family. She has especially been inspired by her mother, who is an emergency medical technician in Sussex County.

“I have always been around healthcare with my mom being a paramedic and many other family members working at a hospital as nurses or other healthcare professionals,” Moore said. “Seeing these incredible people go to work every day and work so hard to help others made me realize I wanted to do just that.”

Moore chose to major in nursing because she has felt like that was her calling ever since she first learned about the profession.

“I just want to help people,” she said. “It feels like it’s something I’m supposed to do. It’s a job that not everyone can do or wants to do and to me it seems like fun.”

Delaware Tech was an easy choice for Moore to make since the College started the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program years ago, which would allow Moore a convenient path to continue her education. She has also been able to continue her softball career by becoming a member of the region and district champion Delaware Tech team.

“The opportunities and resources at Delaware Tech are endless and available right at your disposal if you ask,” Moore said. “The scholarships offered here are unlike anything I have seen and there are always people willing to help you no matter the occasion.”

While Moore has always been a strong student and was able to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout her freshman year, she said she did have to adjust to being a college student and student-athlete.

“I think I have taken more responsibility in studying,” she said. “I have always had to manage schoolwork with work and sports but being in college and having more rigorous courses made it so I had to allow more time for studying. I am now able to study efficiently and allocate time to do so.”

After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in nursing Moore plans to pursue her master’s degree as well. Her ultimate goal is to become a nurse practitioner with her own practice.

“I would like the stability of a practice and get to a point in my life where I can have a set schedule while having a family,” Moore said.
