When he was a sophomore at Appoquinimink High School, Kory Pritchard started taking his health and fitness seriously. He was a member of the school’s baseball team, and weightlifting and athletic ability became a priority to him.
“I fell in love with it and thought if I could do it for a living that would be my dream job,” Pritchard said. “I kept lifting and it became a passion. Then I started to help my friends.”
Pritchard became interested in majoring in exercise science in college, but he also wanted to continue playing baseball. He decided Delaware Tech was his best option, since he could join the baseball team and start toward an exercise science degree at a four-year institution.
“I wasn’t ready to give up baseball,” Pritchard said. “Baseball gives my training a purpose, working out so I can continue to play at a high level. Plus, playing sports helps me stay on top of my grades so I remain eligible.
“I chose the general studies major so I could complete all of my general education courses and transfer somewhere else and dive right in to exercise science courses.”
Pritchard has already begun working in the athletic training business. He received an internship at A4 Training in Salisbury, Md., in the summer of 2022 and turned that internship into a job, where he helps train individual athletes and teams, and also works with the general public.
“I want to be the coach for someone that I wish I had when I was younger,” Pritchard said. “Plus, I just like being in a gym setting so when I go to work it doesn’t even feel like I’m working.”
Pritchard said he has noticed a lot of positive changes since he started attending Delaware Tech. He has found a stronger faith in God, and he has an improved work ethic. He has used that work ethic to become a leader for the baseball team. He wrote the team’s offseason workout program, and has helped his teammates in the weight room during the season.
“I’ve loved every minute of being part of the baseball team,” Pritchard said. “I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’ve really enjoyed every minute with my teammates.”
